Pietro Girometti, son of famous gem engraver Giuseppe Girometti, joined his father working at the Roman Mint in 1838 and later succeeded him in the position of head engraver. As one of Pietro’s first works for the Roman Mint, this medal commemorates the restoration of the Pauline Chapel within the Apostolic Palace under the auspices of Pope Gregory XVI.
